UK Intelligence says Russians pushing forward, yet calls breakthrough towards Kurakhove in Donetsk Oblast unlikely
UK Defence Intelligence has stated in its intelligence review that a significant Russian breakthrough towards the town of Kurakhove (Donetsk Oblast) is highly unlikely despite the Russian army's gradual advances in the area of the town of Marinka.

Quote: "Despite its incremental advances, a major, operationally significant Russian breakthrough in this sector remains highly unlikely."
Details: The UK MoD noted the ongoing heavy fighting to control the war-torn Marinka and its outskirts. "Russia has likely further reduced the small pockets of Ukrainian-controlled territory remaining within the town boundary," the review stressed.
UK intelligence says one of Russia's operational goals in the area is to control the 00510 and H15 roads in order to push further towards Kurakhove.
Background:
- On 5 December, UK intelligence noted in its review that Russia controls most of Marinka, although the town has been utterly destroyed.
- On 14 December, the UK MoD reported on an unsuccessful operation by the Russian occupying forces to drive Ukrainian defenders out of a bridgehead near the village of Krynky (Kherson Oblast) on the Dnipro River's left (eastern) bank.
