Number of people injured in Kyiv rises to 53 – photo

As of 07:33, 53 people are known to have been injured in a Russian missile attack on the city of Kyiv, including 6 children and 18 adults, with 2 children hospitalised. All 10 missiles flying towards the capital were shot down.

Quote by Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko: "A total of 53 people were injured as a result of the nighttime attack by the enemy. 20 of them, including 2 children, were hospitalised. 33 casualties, including 6 children, were treated on the spot."

Details: The oldest person injured is 80 years old, the youngest is 5.

In total about 10 cases of fallen missile wreckage due to air defence operations were recorded.

In the Holosiivskyi district the wreckage fell on the roadway but did not catch fire.

In the Desnianskyi district, the sixth floor of a 9-storey apartment block and eight vehicles parked outside the building caught fire.

There the residents were evacuated. 17 people were rescued, 7 of them children.

The Red Cross is working at the scene, a bus from the Kyivpastrans transport company was used to keep people warm, and healthcare professionals are working with the residents to give them psychological support. Those injured have received the necessary medical treatment.

In two other locations of the district, burning wreckage from the missiles was found on open ground.

In the Dniprovskyi district a blast wave broke the windows in two apartment blocks, and a private residential building caught fire.

Missile wreckage fell on three more private residential buildings but did not catch fire. Residential buildings and outbuildings were partially destroyed.

A water pipe was damaged due to wreckage falling on the roadway – emergency services are working at the scene.

There are no reports of people having been killed.

Updated: Later, Kyiv police reported that a total of four apartment buildings, four private residential buildings, and municipal buildings were damaged in the attack.

It also damaged 19 personal vehicles, 4 of which were utterly destroyed.

Background:

  • On the night of 12-13 December a series of explosions was heard in the city of Kyiv. After that an air-raid warning was issued in the city and in Kyiv Oblast.
  • After the missile attack, houses and vehicles were on fire on the left bank of Dnipro River in Kyiv, injuring more than 50 people.
  • The Russians used ballistic armaments in the attack on Kyiv – all the missiles were destroyed.
  • Earlier it was reported that missile wreckage had fallen in three districts on the left bank of Dnipro River.
