Ballistic missile attack on Kyiv: all missiles destroyed

The Russians used ballistic armaments to launch an attack on the city of Kyiv on the night of 12-13 December, with all the missiles being destroyed.

Details: Popko stated that the Russians launched missiles at about 03:00 in the morning, likely from a northeasterly direction.

Air defences have destroyed all the targets. The number and type of missiles will be determined by the Ukrainian Air Force.

Missile wreckage fell in three left-bank districts of the city as a result of air defence operations.

In the Darnytskyi district, a private residential building caught fire, over a total area of 400 m2.

In the Dniprovskyi district, a balcony on the sixth floor of a 9-storey building was on fire. The façade of a house and the windows were damaged. Four vehicles parked outside the building also caught fire. The residents were evacuated. Those injured (who mostly received cut wounds) received medical treatment.

In addition to this, a private home caught fire over a total area of 2 m2.

In the Desnianskyi district, missile wreckage fell on open ground and a roadway.

In total 23 people were injured. Thirteen out of them were hospitalised with injuries of different degrees of severity. All casualties received urgent medical treatment.

Background: 

  • On the night of 12-13 December, a series of explosions were heard in the city of Kyiv. After that an air-raid warning was issued in the city and in Kyiv Oblast.
  • After the missile attack, houses and vehicles were on fire on the left bank of Dnipro River in Kyiv, causing casualties.
