Laurynas Kasčiūnas, the Chair of the Committee on National Security and Defence of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, believes that Russia is not ready for a conventional war against the countries of the West, and it will take five to seven years to restore its capabilities after the invasion of Ukraine.

Quote: "I agree with those who say that Russia is not ready for a major divisional conventional war; it will take several years to restore its capabilities, especially if some kind of truce is established according to their rules," Kasčiūnas said during a speech in the Seimas.

At the same time, other hybrid scenarios are possible, such as invasion without the intention of occupation or attacks on strategic targets, Kasčiūnas said.

"[Possible scenarios include] Hybrid field, grey zone, invasion without the goal of occupation, Hamas scenarios that we saw in Israel, sabotage against strategic targets," the Lithuanian member of parliament added.

  • Earlier, Gabrielius Landsbergis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, stated that Russia's attack on the Baltic States and other NATO members was only a matter of time.
  • Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda disagreed with him, urging Landsbergis to "sit down and calm down."
  • Meanwhile, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, believes that Moscow can really start aggression against the countries of the eastern flank of NATO in the future if it perceives the outcome of the war in Ukraine as its victory.
