UK tells OSCE Russia must be completely defeated in war with Ukraine
Russia must be completely defeated both in the war it is waging against Ukraine and in its attempts to disrupt the OSCE.
Source: James Heappey, Minister of State for the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, as reported by European Pravda.
"Russia is failing in its illegal war. And failing in its attempts to disrupt this organisation. We must deliver a strong, functioning and adequately resourced OSCE. We owe it to the OSCE's founders, to our citizens, and to future generations to have an effective Organisation," the British minister said.
Heappey said OSCE members are currently facing daunting challenges and that is why he believes this organisation is so vital.
"The return of war to Europe only underlines the enduring value of this institution. OSCE principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-use of force should be the foundation of peace on the European continent," the minister added.
He emphasised the need to continue to support Ukraine, which the UK intends to do in order to ensure that "Ukraine prevails" and will "secure a lasting peace".
"Nor can we waver in holding Russia to account for its actions against OSCE principles and commitments. Commitments that it co-wrote," he emphasised.
Background:
- Earlier, it became known that several ministers will boycott the OSCE meeting due to the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, but did not announce this publicly. UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron, in particular, has ignored the meeting.
- Earlier, it was reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken left the OSCE meeting before Russia’s foreign minister arrived.
