Ukraine's Security Service detains traitor who turned in his father to gain position in occupying authorities

Ukraine's Security Service counterintelligence officers have detained a member of a village council in Kherson Oblast for siding with the Russians during the occupation of the oblast.

Quote: "The perpetrator (a 38-year-old member of the Stanislav Village Council) served as a member of the outlawed [Russian-backed – ed.] Party of Regions, and had welcomed convoys of Russian forces entering the hromada early in the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine (in March 2022) [a hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.].

He was one of the first to propose his 'assistance' to the invaders in the war against Ukraine during the occupation of the oblast. For this purpose, he massively informed the aggressor of the locations of resistance movement members and their families.

His father, a pro-Ukrainian figure who opposed Russia's armed aggression, was one of the first people the traitor had turned in."

Details: The Ukrainian special service reported that the patriotic father had been taken to a local Russian torture chamber. There he was subjected to multiple tortures aimed at persuading him to collaborate with the Russians.

Furthermore, the traitorous member of the local council joined the occupying administration established on the territory of the hromada chaired by Volodymyr Saldo, Russian-appointed sham "head" of Kherson Oblast.

As part of this sham authority, the defendant was in charge of distributing "humanitarian aid" from Russia to supporters of the Kremlin regime.

Additionally, the investigation found that the traitor repeatedly participated in pillaging the residences of local residents and abducting people, resisting the Russians and their henchmen.

Besides, the defendant, on his initiative, stood guard with arms in his hands at Russian checkpoints and lodged the Russian soldiers in the houses of citizens who had moved to the Ukrainian-controlled territory.

Once the village was liberated, the traitor remained on the hromada's territory, seeking to "lay low" and thus avoid justice.

As a result of complex measures, SSU officers established the traitor's whereabouts and detained him.

In the course of searches, the SSU seized the following items:

  • a Russian passport, which he obtained in June 2022;
  • a membership card for the banned Party of Regions;
  • Russian propaganda symbols and other material evidence of illegal activity.

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the detainee was served with a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Art. 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
  • Article 111-1.2 (collaborationism).

The traitor was remanded in custody as a measure of restraint. The offender faces life imprisonment.
