Ukraine’s international partners now expect the Ukrainian military to have a definite plan of action, unlike the situation at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

"Now it depends on our military – Zaluzhnyi, his generals – what plan we will show to our international partners. But a plan is needed," she said, adding that a plan B is needed as well as a plan A.

According to Ustinova, it is on this basis that Ukraine’s international partners are prepared to provide weapons.

At the same time, Ustinova noted, they do not expect a full-blown plan on how to get back to 1991 borders.

"But they want to see that we understand where we are going, and are not just sitting in trenches, firing back and losing people.

And if the military communicate this at their level, then it will be easier for us politicians to ask for money for that," the MP said.

Ustinova suggested that this was why US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had visited Kyiv – to understand Ukraine’s action plan.

Austin arrived in Kyiv early on 20 November on a surprise visit, during which he announced a new US$100 million package of military assistance to Ukraine, which includes artillery shells and an additional HIMARS system.

Earlier, Austin stated that the US Department of Defense would continue working towards securing additional funding for Kyiv's defence and other needs in the US Congress.
