Pentagon chief meets with Zelenskyy

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, in Kyiv.

Austin said the meeting was another opportunity to "reaffirm the United States’ steadfast support for Ukraine".

Quote: "I was honored to meet with President Zelenskyy in Kyiv today to reaffirm the United States’ steadfast support for Ukraine. We, along with our allies and partners, will continue to support Ukraine’s urgent battlefield needs and long-term defence requirements.

Background:

• Lloyd Austin arrived in Kyiv early on 20 November on an unannounced visit.
• The US Defense Secretary said he would be discussing the provision of the capabilities the Ukrainian army needs for the winter and to defend itself against future Russian threats.
