New deposit with record-breaking output opened in depleted gas field

The Ukrainian state-owned Ukrgasvydobuvannya gas production company has opened a new gas deposit at a gas field in the Carpathian mountains, which was considered exhausted.

Details: The company explained that during the testing, an appraisal well flowered at more than 200 KCM/D, providing the highest Ukrgasvydobuvannya rate for fields in the western region in the last 20 years.

The record-breaking gas production was achieved due to the application of modern technologies, in particular the Ivan Bogun drilling rig.

"The western region has a great potential for discovering new [hydrocarbon] fields, which is confirmed by the results of neighbouring countries. Now we are strengthening our activities in this region, in particular, to introduce new technologies and attract investment," Oleh Tolmachev, acting CEO of Ukrgasvydobuvannya, said.

The well location was chosen according to the results of interpretation of new information from 3D seismic surveys conducted earlier.

Now the specialists of the company are working to extend technological possibilities of ground infrastructure in order to increase the productivity of the well.

"Based on the results of geophysical activities, our specialists have identified a bunch of pay horizons that expand the field's prospects for drilling new wells. And the test results will allow [us] to assess reserves of the new deposit," Maksym Vityk, Director for Exploration and Development of Ukrgasvydobuvannya, stated.
