Details: According to the French Foreign Ministry, the Russian propaganda network Recent Reliable News/Doppelganger artificially inflated and published photos with drawings of David's stars on social networks.
"This new operation of Russian online meddling against France reflects a persisting opportunistic and irresponsible strategy of using international crises to create confusion and tensions in the public debate in France and in Europe," the ministry said in a statement.
The Russian Embassy in Paris has already hastened to deny these accusations, saying that Russia has nothing to do with this and that these are attempts to "discredit" Moscow.
Background:
- French investigators are considering the possibility that behind dozens of drawings of the Star of David on houses in Paris is Russia.
- After 7 October, when Hamas militants attacked Israel, 887 anti-Semitic events and incidents were recorded in France, with more than 400 people being detained.
- The European Commission has declared an extraordinary level of anti-Semitism surge in Europe.
