Ukrainian Parliament takes step towards banning religious organisations with ties to Russia

The Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine has supported a bill that would ban Russian-linked religious organisations in Ukraine at its first reading.

Viktoria Siumar noted that some spoke in favour of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate: Yurii Boiko, former co-leader of the banned political faction Opposition Platform - For Life, Yevhenii Shevchenko MP, and Artem Dmytruk MP, who was expelled from the Servant of the People party in November 2021.
