EU makes statement concerning escalation in Middle East
The EU member states have condemned Hamas’ terrorist actions against Israel in a joint statement about the escalation in the Middle East.

Quote: "The European Union condemns in the strongest possible terms Hamas and its brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks across Israel and deeply deplores the loss of lives…
We strongly emphasize Israel’s right to defend itself in line with humanitarian and international law in the face of such violent and indiscriminate attacks."
Details: The EU member states reiterated the importance of ensuring the protection of all [Israeli] civilians at all times in line with International Humanitarian Law and called upon Hamas to release all hostages.
"We call on Hamas to immediately release all hostages without any precondition. We reiterate the importance of the provision of urgent humanitarian aid and stand ready to continue supporting those civilians most in need in Gaza in coordination with partners, ensuring that such assistance is not abused by terrorist organisations. It is crucial to prevent regional escalation," the document reads.
Background: Earlier it was revealed that the European Commission will increase the humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip three times to €75 million.
In addition to this the EU leaders will hold an emergency virtual summit concerning the Middle East.
