Export potential of Ukrainian ports decreased by 40%
Since its withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Russia has carried out 17 large-scale attacks, which has led to a 40% reduction in the export potential of Ukrainian ports.
Source: Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, during a visit by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Odesa
Quote: "17 large-scale attacks since Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, a 40% reduction in the export potential of ports, and almost 300,000 tonnes of destroyed grain are Russia's attempt to deepen the food crisis in those countries that depend on Ukrainian products."
Details: Kubrakov said that Russia poses threats to the shipping industry in the Black Sea, but the Ukrainian military knows how to repel the occupiers. Accordingly, the Ukrainian side was able to create an opportunity for a temporary corridor for civilian vessels.
Quote: "As of today, 21 vessels have already used this corridor for exports and 25 vessels have entered the ports for loading. We continue to work on expanding the corridor; it is our responsibility for the world's food security."
Details: Kubrakov added that the Black Sea Grain Initiative has enabled the world to receive almost 33 million tonnes of food. Africa and Asia received 60% of it. However, the world's need is much greater. Ukraine could have provided at least 57 million tonnes, no matter how much the Russians had blocked the grain corridor.
Background:
- Seven ships have already departed from Odesa ports via the temporary humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea.
