Lebanese Hezbollah says it's ready to fight Israel
The Lebanese movement Hezbollah has claimed that it is "fully prepared" to join Hamas in a war against Israel when the time comes.
Source: Times of Israel, citing a statement by Naim Qassem, Deputy Head of Hezbollah, during a pro-Palestinian rally in the southern suburbs of Beirut
Quote: "We are fully prepared, and when the time comes for action, we will take it."
Details: Afterwards, air-raid warnings were issued in northern Israel, where it borders Lebanon.
The Times of Israel noted that there have been several false warnings in the country's north over the past few days due to the potential launch of missiles from Lebanon.
For reference: Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shiite paramilitary Islamist organisation and political party. The governments of Israel, the United States, Canada, and Bahrain have declared it a terrorist organisation. The EU, the UK, Australia and the Netherlands recognise Hezbollah's External Security Organisation as a terrorist organisation.
It almost completely controls the south of Lebanon.
Background:
- Hezbollah said it had fired rockets and mortars at Israel "in solidarity" with the Palestinians, and the Israel Defence Forces responded with artillery and UAVs.
- Israel has deployed its troops in anticipation of an invasion from Lebanon, and first clashes occurred on the border of the two countries.
