Ukrainian Ground Forces Commander on situation on eastern front: Russians stubbornly prepare to take revenge
The operational situation in the east has been difficult, as the Russians are not abandoning their plans to reach the borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts and persistently prepare to take revenge.
Source: Military Media Center citing Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,
Quote: "The operational situation on the eastern fronts remains difficult. The enemy is not abandoning its plans to reach the borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, stubbornly preparing to take revenge and seize the operational initiative."
Details: Syrskyi said Russian forces on the Kupyansk front have almost finished the training of assault units, and are firing at Ukrainian positions using artillery and mortars every day.
On the Lyman front, the Russians continue to replace troops with units from the 25th Combined Arms Army, formed and transferred from Russian territory.
Fierce battles continue on the Bakhmut front, with Russian forces trying to keep their occupied positions, but Ukraine’s Defence Forces units are pushing the invaders out from Ukrainian land step by step.
Syrskyi emphasised that quick and correct decisions have to be made under such difficult conditions, reacting to changes in the nature of Russia's actions and threats that arise from their side.
Syrskyi said together with the commanders of military units of the Lyman and Soledar operational-tactical groups, they considered all possible Russian actions and made the most effective management decisions.
Quote: "Our main task is to ensure reliable defence, to prevent the loss of the lines and positions we are now occupying on the Kupiansk and Lyman fronts, as well as to successfully move forward and reach the designated lines on the Bakhmut front.
But the main thing is to do this [to reach lines, keep positions, etc. – ed.] with minimal losses among our defenders.
I believe in our heroes, we will win! Glory to Ukraine!"
