Ukraine did not ask Norway to extradite Wagner ex-commander who fled Russia
The Ukrainian side did not request Norway to extradite former Wagner Group commander Andrei Medvedev who fled the Russian Federation in the beginning of this year.
Source: This is stated in the response of the National Criminal Investigation Service of Norway (KRIPOS) to the request of the LIGA.net portal, as reported by European Pravda
Details: The Norwegian law enforcement agency added that Medvedev has the status of a witness, and he was interrogated for testimony during his service in the Wagner Group.
Quote: "From our side, Medvedev can leave if he wants. I am not aware of any extradition request," said KRIPOS spokesman Axel Wilhelm Due, replying to a request for comment.
Last week, the former mercenary was detained by Norwegian police during an attempt to illegally cross the border with Russia, after which he said that he allegedly feared extradition to Ukraine.
Andrei Medvedev fled from Russia to Norway in January 2023. He managed to penetrate the border zone on the Kola Peninsula, which is carefully guarded, and then cross to Norway.
The mercenary confirmed that he was ready to testify in court against his former boss Yevgeny Prigozhin and the activities of the Wagner Private Military Company.
In May, Medvedev stated that he wanted to return to Russia, even if this could pose a risk to his life. In July, he said he had no plans to return to Russia.
