Ukrainian grain does not affect market in Poland: Expert compares prices
Polish farmers have almost twice as much revenue as Ukrainian exporters of agricultural products, so the claims that Ukrainian grain has a bad influence on the market in Poland are not true.
Source: Oleh Nivievskyi, Vice President for Economic Education and Associate Professor of the Kyiv School of Economics, analysed the difference between comparable prices for Polish and Ukrainian agricultural producers in the example of wheat.
"We collected prices from various sources with Pavlo Martyshev (a researcher at the Center for Food and Land Use Research at the Kyiv School of Economics – ed.) Two rather interesting conclusions just from the price chart," Nivievskyi posted on his Telegram channel.
"Polish farmers now have almost twice as much revenue. Why? The reasons are well known to everyone. We are at war, and logistics are very expensive, risks, limited export opportunities, etc.," the expert said.
He says the dynamics of Polish prices generally match the dynamics of world prices.
"That is, it is not visible that our exports to them "broke" the market," said Oleh Nivievskyi.
Note:
- Poland's government says they can't allow Ukrainian grain to get into the country immediately after harvesting since local farmers are a priority, and they should sell their grain and get a reasonable price for it.
- Ukraine insists that a unilateral extension of the ban will violate the rules of the common market and the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
- The Polish Foreign Ministry called Ukraine's complaint to the World Trade Organization an element of pressure due to the situation with the ban on grain imports.
