"According to locals, the power outage happened about half an hour ago, and before that, they saw a flash in the sky and heard a cotton [an explosion - ed]," said a channel named Ostoronozhno, Novosti (Caution, News).

[Russian propaganda, initially refusing to use the word ‘vzryv’ (explosion), used ‘khlopok’ (a bang) instead. However, ‘khlopok’ also means ‘cotton’, and this has since become a meme – ed.]

The authorities have yet to comment on the incident.

Pulkovo airport said the power supply was disrupted in the departure hall for domestic flights. The power supply in the building was switched to backup power.

According to Pulkovo's online flight board, the power cut did not cause any flight delays.
