Details: The Polish president noted that special transit corridors have been prepared to allow Ukrainian grain to be transported through Poland and then shipped "where it is really needed".
Duda stressed that transit exports are still taking place.
As noted, Polish authorities find it difficult to accept the European Commission's decision not to extend the embargo. Duda added that this decision significantly affects the line of EU countries along the Ukrainian border.
Background:
- Polish President Andrzej Duda believes that the decision to impose a unilateral ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products was correct.
- The European Commission announced that it would not extend restrictions on agricultural imports from Ukraine after 15 September, but Kyiv agreed to take measures to restrict imports on its part.
- Nevertheless, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia decided to introduce unilateral restrictions, with Warsaw stating that their restrictions would be in place indefinitely.
- Afterwards, Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine was ready to impose a ban on imports of certain goods from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary unless these countries lifted their grain bans.
