Quote: "There is a working group led by the NAM head. It evaluates threat levels and indicators to determine the viability of our border crossing points."
Details: Bilotaitė noted that she is waiting for all the results of the group’s work to be presented next week.
She added that the working group is preparing a systematic conclusion that suggests different stages depending on different threat indicators and the levels themselves.
The conclusion also evidently provides for the restriction of operation or closure of border crossing points depending on the threat level.
Background:
- President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda stated that, as of today, he does not consider the scenario of a complete closure of the border with Belarus relevant.
- Prior to that, Rustamas Liubajevas, Commander of the State Border Security Service of Lithuania, expressed his support for the closure of new crossing points at the border with Belarus.
- Lithuania announced the temporary closure of two out of six crossing points on the border with Belarus starting 18 August. The points near the villages of Šumskas and Tverečius were closed.
