Details: It noted that this illegal step is another desperate attempt by the Kremlin to legitimise control over the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, to create an illusion of legitimacy, continuing to grossly violate international law and the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, complementing the long list of crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine.
Quote: "The international community will never recognize the results of these fake elections. Furthermore, those who contribute to their organisation must be given a strong and clear response," Landsbergis said.
The statement also reiterated Lithuania’s consistent support for the struggle of the Ukrainian people for freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and demanded the Russian Federation to immediately withdraw its forces from the internationally recognised territory of Ukraine.
Earlier, the European Union announced its non-recognition of Russia's sham "elections" in the occupied territories of Ukraine and stressed that the Russian leadership will be held accountable for the effects of these illegal actions.
The Council of Europe previously stated that the sham "elections" recently held by Russia in the occupied territories of Ukraine are invalid under international law.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Washington would never recognise the results of these "sham elections".
UK Defence Intelligence states that Putin's United Russia party faction seeks to consolidate Kremlin influence in the occupied territories of Ukraine by holding sham elections there.
