During a conversation with Baerbock, Zelenskyy stressed that strengthening the energy sector before the winter season is one of Ukraine’s top priorities.
Zelenskyy has concentrated on urgent needs of the Defence Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield. The further strengthening of Ukraine’s air defence was discussed separately, mainly for the protection of the south of the country and of the grain corridor.
Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of additional support from allies and providing Ukrainian forces with more artillery, mainly with 155-mm calibre systems and long-range missiles.
Zelenskyy and Baerbock shared their opinions on the European integration of Ukraine and the progress in accessing the EU membership candidate status it achieved by following the recommendations of the European Commission.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is ready to closely cooperate with Germany while preparing for the next international Ukraine Recovery Conference set to be held in Berlin in the summer 2024.
"It is important to ensure the most concrete practical results of the сonference," Zelenskyy stated.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited a power substation near the city of Kyiv.
She arrived in Kyiv by train early in the morning on 11 September. This is her fourth visit to the Ukrainian capital since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression. At first the trip was kept a secret for security reasons. Held a week before the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, this visit was also a gesture of solidarity.
Upon arrival, Baerbock announced Berlin’s readiness to support Ukraine on its way to the EU.
