Pentagon Chief and Polish Defence Minister discuss situation with Wagnerites in Belarus

Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin has had a telephone conversation with Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

Details: Austin emphasised US support for Poland in its response to the intrusion of Belarusian helicopters into Polish airspace.

They also discussed the presence of the Wagner Group in Belarus. Austin and Błaszczak agreed to monitor the situation closely going forward.

The Pentagon chief thanked his Polish counterpart for his significant efforts to support Ukraine. They reaffirmed the importance of further security assistance to the Ukrainian people.

Earlier, Poland and Lithuania reported that about 100 Wagner Group fighters had moved to the so-called Suwałki corridor, with the Wagner Group stationed near the Lithuanian border in Hrodna Oblast of Belarus.

The Pentagon said it saw no risks to NATO over the situation on the Polish border with Belarus.
