Up to 6 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain has been stolen by Russia – US Congress
Russia has stolen almost six million tonnes of Ukrainian grain harvested last year in the temporarily occupied territories.
Source: a US Congress report
The US Congress cited data from a US intelligence assessment based on satellite images and reports from open sources.
According to the report, in order to export the stolen Ukrainian grain, Russia used cargo vessels that could sail along the coast of Turkey, delivering cargo to ports in Syria, Israel, Iran, Georgia and Lebanon.
However, Congress cannot confirm whether the buyers of these cargoes were aware of the Ukrainian origin of the grain.
Reminder:
- The Russians continue to export stolen grain from Ukraine, using the port in temporarily occupied Berdiansk in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
- According to a NASA Harvest study, Russia has stolen at least US$1 billion worth of Ukrainian grain.
- The Financial Times has published an investigation using a single vessel as an example to show how Russia is trading in Ukrainian grain stolen from Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
