Almost 1,500 people evacuated from Kupiansk district

Local authorities in Kharkiv Oblast have reported that 1,433 people have been evacuated from the Kupiansk district since the start of the mandatory evacuation on 9 August.

Quote: "The Oblast Military Administration is carrying out evacuations, especially intensifying evacuations from the left bank, from Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. Yesterday, in particular, 24 people were evacuated, including 5 children.

In total, we have evacuated about 1,433 people since 9 August, when the mandatory evacuation began. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to leave, despite the intensity of the attacks."

Details: Semenukha said that the Kupiansk district remains in the combat zone, with Russian attacks taking place almost daily. 

Background: 

  • On 10 August, a mandatory evacuation was announced in the Kupiansk district of Kharkiv Oblast due to intensified Russian attacks. In particular, residents of 37 settlements close to the combat zone were asked to leave for Kharkiv, and then, if they were willing to, to other regions of Ukraine.
  • As of the morning of 18 August, approximately 480 people had been evacuated from Kupiansk district, and the authorities are developing evacuation routes in case of a threat of occupation of Kupiansk.
  • On 29 August, the authorities announced the forced evacuation of children from five settlements in Zaporizhzhia Oblast due to the difficult security situation.
