G7 ambassadors recall reform priorities during meeting with Ukrainian Parliament Speaker

The ambassadors of the Group of Seven (G7) countries have met with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian Parliament], to discuss the critical areas of reforms.

Details: The ambassadors' meeting with Stefanchuk focused on judicial and anti-corruption reforms.

Quote: "We also reiterated the importance of the timely restoration of the asset declaration system to deliver maximum transparency, redefinition of politically exposed persons, strengthening anti-corruption institutions such as SAPO and NABU, and improving corporate governance of SOEs in line with OECD guidelines," the ambassadors said.

Details: Describing the conversation, Ruslan Stefanchuk said he thanked the ambassadors for their countries' comprehensive assistance and recommendations.

"I also stressed that a successful reform process will determine the future of Ukraine as a European state, a member of the EU and NATO," Stefanchuk added.

Background:

  • Last week, the Ukrainian parliament adopted draft law No. 9419-1 in the second reading to resume the submission of financial reports by political parties, as requested by the G7.
  • Some ambassadors of the G7 nations have recently been replaced or will soon be replaced. Among them, the new ambassadors of France and Germany have arrived in Ukraine.

Canadian Ambassador Larisa Galadza has completed her mission and will be replaced by Natalka Cmoc. Effective September, Martin Harris will replace Melinda Simmons as the UK Ambassador to Ukraine.
