US$3.6 million provided by partner states to eliminate consequences of Kakhovka HPP destruction

Partner countries provided Ukraine with assistance to eliminate the consequences of undermining the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant amounting to UAH 136 million (approx. US$3.692 million – ed.).

Source: This was announced by Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, during a meeting with representatives of foreign diplomatic institutions, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

Details: The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the equipment transferred by the partners in the amount of UAH 136 million helped the local administration to evacuate people, pump out water from flooded houses, provide people with drinking water and electricity, and eliminate the consequences of Russian missile attacks.

Quote: "As a result of the terrorist attack, 11 spans out of 28 of the upper part of the dam were destroyed. 3 engine rooms of the hydroelectric power station leaked 150 tonnes of oil. Kakhovka HPP is no longer subject to restoration,"  said Ihor Klymenko.

In total, over 2,000 people, 300 pieces of equipment and over a 100 watercraft were involved daily in the liquidation of the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack.

"180 settlements in Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Kherson Oblasts fell into the emergency zone. Approximately 875,000 people lived there. At least 34 people were killed, another 28 were injured. 39 people are missing," the report said.

In addition, almost 4,000 people and hundreds of pets were taken out of the flooded areas. During the rescue operation in the affected areas, 716 people were rescued, including 30 children and 40 people with limited mobility.

Almost 700,000 Ukrainians were left without access to drinking water. The regular supply of water to the affected areas was established by the Interior Ministry staff. 75 pieces of equipment were involved in this process.

Background: 

  • The Cabinet of Ministers allocated money for payments to Ukrainians who lost their vegetable crop due to the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, amounting to UAH 3,300 (approx. US$89,33 – ed.) for each hundred square metres of land in a private garden.
  • To overcome the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant by the Russians, UAH 4.3 billion (approx. US$116,395 million – ed.) was allocated from the state budget.
