Details: The UK MoD noted that Sergey Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration, arrived in Russian-occupied Donetsk on 15 August to inspect schools and check whether they were integrating into the Russian education system.
The Russian occupying administration in Zaporizhzhia Oblast received guidelines from Russia to introduce new accreditation standards for educational institutions.
Furthermore, journalists from Russia are finding employment in news agencies in the occupied territories, UK Defence Intelligence added.
Effective from 1 September, schools in the occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as Russian educational institutions, will receive a new Russian history textbook that glorifies aggression against Ukraine, also called a "special military operation" by Russian propaganda. These textbooks also refer to Ukraine as an "ultra-terrorist state".
"Russia’s aim is to create a pro-Kremlin information space in the occupied regions in order to erode Ukrainian national identity," the UK MoD stressed.
Background:
- In a previous report, UK Defence Intelligence forecasted that Russia would continue to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the coming winter.
- The report dated 16 August said Russia had begun using copies of Iranian-made Shahed attack drones domestically produced in the country
