20 combat clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces over past day – General Staff report

Twenty combat clashes occurred between the defence forces of Ukraine and the Russian occupiers during 16 August.

Quote: "The enemy launched eight missiles and 82 air attacks, and deployed multiple-launch rocket systems to attack positions of Ukraine’s troops and the settlements 76 times over the course of the past 24 hours. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, including children. Port infrastructure in Odesa, residential buildings and other civil infrastructure in Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Dnipro and Kherson oblasts were destroyed.

Confirmed data says that 2 Kh-35/Kh-59 cruise missiles and 16 enemy Shahed-136/131 UAVs were destroyed due to successful combat operations by Ukrainian air defence personnel and assets over the past 24 hours.

The likelihood of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high.

Details: The situation on the Volyn and Polissia fronts remained unchanged.

On the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna fronts, Russian forces launched airstrikes in the area of Chervona Zoria, Veterynarne, Kozacha Lopan, Hatyshche, and Rohan (Kharkiv Oblast). The Russians deployed artillery and mortars to attack more than 15 settlements, including Tymonovychi and Bleshnia (Chernihiv Oblast); Turia, Stepok and Hrabovske (Sumy Oblast) and Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khytory, Okhrimivka, Potykhonove and Chuhunivka (Kharkiv Oblast).

On the Kupiansk front, Russian forces launched airstrikes near Kupiansk, Petropavlivka, Podoly, Tabaivka, Pisky-Radkivski and Cherneshchyna (Kharkiv Oblast), and Nadiia (Luhansk Oblast). The Russians conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the area of Senkivka (Kharkiv Oblast), and deployed artillery and mortars to attack Vilshana, Petropavlivka and Cherneshchyna (Kharkiv Oblast).

On the Lyman front, the Russians carried out airstrikes in the areas of Nevske and Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast), and Siversk (Donetsk Oblast). About 20 settlements, in particular, Nevske, Dibrova and Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast) and Vyimka, Pereizne, Rozdolivka and Pazeno (Donetsk Oblast), were hit by Russian artillery fire.

On the Bakhmut front, the Russians conducted unsuccessful offensive operations near Bohdanivka (Donetsk Oblast). They carried out airstrikes in the areas of Ivanivka, Pryvillia, Minkivka and Bila Hora (Donetsk Oblast). More than 15 settlements, including Andriivka, Bila Hora, Dyliivka and Pivnichne (Donetsk Oblast) were affected by Russian artillery shelling.

On the Avdiivka front, Ukrainian forces, while under heavy fire from aircraft and artillery, continue to restrain the offensive of Russian troops in the vicinity of Avdiivka (Donetsk Oblast). More than 10 settlements were shelled by Russians, including Oleksandropil, Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Sieverne, Pervomaiske and Nevelske in Donetsk Oblast.

On the Marinka front, the Ukrainian troops continue to restrain the offensive of Russian troops in the area of the city of Marinka (Donetsk Oblast). The Russians launched an airstrike in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk Oblast), and targeted 10 settlements with artillery – in particular, Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Pobieda, Paraskoviivka and Vodiane (Donetsk Oblast).

On the Shakhtarsk front, the Russians carried out airstrikes in the areas of Blahodatne, Urozhaine and Staromayorske (Donetsk Oblast) and struck more than 10 settlements with artillery, including Vodiane, Bohoiavlenka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne and Urozhaine (Donetsk Oblast). 

On the Zaporizhzhia front, the Russians launched airstrikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Novodanylivka (Zaporizhzhia Oblast). Over 20 settlements were affected by Russian artillery shelling, including Omelnyk, Novoandriivka, Kamianske, Plavni and Lukianivske (Zaporizhzhia Oblast).

On the Kherson front, the Russians fired artillery on more than 10 settlements, particularly Khreshchenivka, Novodmytrivka, Mykolaivka, Sadove and Zelenivka, Berehove and Kizomys (Kherson Oblast) and the city of Kherson.

Meanwhile, the defence forces of Ukraine continue to advance on the Melitopol and Berdiansk fronts, consolidating recently captured positions and carrying out counter-battery measures.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflicted ten strikes on clusters of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment, as well as one strike on an anti-aircraft missile system. Ukraine’s defenders also shot down eight reconnaissance tactical UAVs.

Units from Ukraine’s Rocket Forces and Artillery struck a Russian anti-aircraft missile system.
