Details: "There is no news with regard to this issue," Scholz said.

"As before, we are focused on supplying ammunition for anti-aircraft defence [systems], heavy artillery and tanks," he added.

Scholz also said that Germany will continue this line of work in close cooperation with its international partners.

Background:

  • Policy-makers from coalition and opposition parties have recently begun demanding that Germany give Ukraine missiles that would be capable of striking and destroying bunkers and command centres up to 500 km away.
  • The German government said it was not planning to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles.
  • Earlier, Spiegel reported that classified talks with representatives of the defence industry are currently underway, as Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to make technical modifications to Taurus missiles to prevent Kyiv from striking Russian territory – which does not include Russian-occupied Crimea.
