Details: Russian businessmen German Khan and Alexey Kuzmichev were also added to the sanctions list.

In addition to them, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs fell under restrictions.

Fridman and Aven are also on the EU sanctions list; they were placed there on 28 February 2022, four days after the start of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Billionaires immediately announced that they would challenge the sanctions.

Fridman, who grew up in Ukraine, made his fortune in Russia and moved to London in 2015, has long denied claims that he was close to the Kremlin.

Aven left Russia shortly after participating in a round-table discussion with Putin on the day the full-scale war began, and has not yet returned.

Fridman continues to live in the UK, where, despite sanctions, he was allowed to spend money on his employees.

This spring, it was revealed that Fridman and Aven are ready to sell their shares in Alfa-Bank for US$2.3 billion, as they seek to free themselves from Western sanctions.
