Details: It is noted that the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council "at the level of heads of state and government, including Sweden", will take place on 12 July at 13:00.
It will be opened with a public opening statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The announcement, and in particular the mention of the participation of "heads of state and government", means that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will most likely attend the NATO summit in Vilnius in person.
Background:
- Last month, Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced that Ukraine and NATO would replace their current format of official meetings in the form of a Commission with a new Council format at the Vilnius Summit in July or afterwards.
- The Alliance's Secretary General also noted that NATO aims to hold the first meeting of the new body for cooperation with Ukraine, the NATO-Ukraine Council, at the Vilnius Summit in July.
