Quote: "I would like to [meet with Lula da Silva – ed.] I was sincere with him. We had a sincere conversation in a video format."

"Look, I ignore all the circumstances. I am saying that I am interested in talking to the [Brazilian] president. He cannot come to us due to security reasons. Okay, I will come to him. I have no problems with that. I only have problems with time. Because the war is ongoing here.

But I am ready to do it so that he hears me and your population hears me…so that we agree to live in a truthful information space from now on, and then the relations between our states will grow better and stronger."

Details: Zelenskyy confirmed that if he receives an invitation from Lula da Silva, he will go to Brazil. "If there were no fierce combat action on the line of contact at that moment, because it is my country that is the priority for me; if I had an opportunity to do so – yes, I would do it [come to Brazil – ed.]," Zelenskyy said.

Background:

  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (MFA) has invited Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to visit Ukraine to understand the true nature of the war, following his scandalous statement.
  • Earlier, Lula da Silva claimed that the war was allegedly caused by "decisions made by the two countries", and blamed both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy for not taking any initiatives to stop the war.
  • In June, Western media reported that Andrii Yermak, head of the President’s Office of Ukraine, is trying to involve Brazil and India in President Zelenskyy’s peace plan, which provides for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the entire territory of Ukraine.
