The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has reported that Ukrainian forces conducted counteroffensive operations in at least three contact line areas on 28 July and advanced near the city of Bakhmut.

Details: The institute's report notes that the Ukrainian military said it was pressing ahead with counteroffensive operations on the northern and southern flanks of Bakhmut and that Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar stated that Ukrainian forces were moving south of Bakhmut.

ISW noted that a Russian "military blogger" said on 28 July that Ukrainian forces had advanced near the settlements of Kurdiumivka and Andriivka.

Russian "military bloggers" also claimed that Ukrainian forces were maintaining ground attacks along the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts' border near the settlements of Staromaiorske (9 kilometres south of the village of Velyka Novosilka) and Urozhaine (9 kilometres south of Velyka Novosilka), and some "military bloggers" admitted that Ukrainian forces had captured Staromaiorske, the report said.

ISW pointed out that a Ukrainian source said the Ukrainian military had advanced to a distance of 10-12 kilometres from the main Russian defence line on the Berdiansk front.

Meanwhile, the Institute's analysts emphasise that Russian pro-war bloggers claim that Russian troops repelled Ukrainian ground attacks near the settlements of Robotyno (10 kilometres south of the town of Orikhiv), Verbove (17 kilometres south-east of Orikhiv) and Piatykhatky (25 kilometres south-west of Orikhiv) in the western part of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
