Quote: "Last night alone, a total of almost 50 buildings in the city of Odesa were damaged, 25 of which are architectural monuments. The historic centre, a world heritage site, which has been taken under the protection of UNESCO.
The building of the Greek consulate was also damaged. This is the second consular institution affected by Russian terror."
Details: Zelenskyy recalled that the Consulate General of China suffered from a Russian strike on Odesa on 20 July.
The president also said that the altar of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Odesa, which he called one of the most treasured cathedrals in Ukraine, was hit by a Russian Kh-22 anti-ship missile.
"In 1936, it [the cathedral] was looted and destroyed by the Bolsheviks. In independent Ukraine, the cathedral was rebuilt, and now terrorists are trying to destroy it again," Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that the cathedral would be restored.
"The main thing is that despite any attempts to break our state and our people, we clearly know that we, Ukraine, have a future because we defend culture and humanity. Russia is only bringing one thing closer with its terror – its removal from history," the president stressed.
Zelenskyy also confirmed that one person was killed and 20 were injured, including four children, aged 11, 12 and two aged 17, in Saturday night’s attack on Odesa.
