Ukraine's Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov has proposed allowing deployment of foreign military bases in Ukraine, changing the Constitution to suit this need.

Quote from Reznikov: "It is clear that if necessary, we can find a legal formula not to call the base a base, but a kind of "Center of Interaction and Experience Exchange" or something else. But why? It is necessary to remove this restriction, which has lost its relevance, in order to destroy the ground for speculation."

Details: The head of the Defence Ministry proposed to supplement Article 17 of the Constitution of Ukraine (on the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine) with the thesis that Ukraine independently chooses mechanisms to ensure its security, in particular by joining international treaties or organisations.

"This will more clearly reveal and normalise the idea of the European and Euro-Atlantic path laid down in Paragraph 5 of the Preamble," Reznikov believes.

Background: On 16 July, Jake Sullivan, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security, stated that the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO has been resolved and is not subject to discussion.
