On Monday 17 July, James Cleverly, Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, has condemned Russia's decision to withdraw from the Black Sea grain initiative, which ensured the safe transportation of grain from Ukrainian Black Sea ports.

Details: According to the Foreign Secretary, Britain condemns "in the strongest terms" Russia's decision to withdraw from the grain agreement, stressing that it is the illegal Russian war that impedes the free transportation of grain and other food products through the Black Sea.

He also recalled that since the beginning of the Black Sea initiative, more than 32 million tons of Ukrainian foodstuffs have been delivered to world markets.

Quote: "We call on Russia to rejoin the initiative that was developed by the UN in 2022 and allow unhindered grain exports.

Russia has been obstructing the proper functioning of the agreement for several months. By doing this, Russia serves its own interests and neglects the needs of all people around the world, in particular in the poorest countries, which end up paying higher food prices."
