28 combat engagements between Ukrainians and Russians occur over past day – General Staff report

On 16 July, 28 combat engagements took place between the Ukrainian Defence Forces and the Russian occupation troops on five fronts.

Quote: "Last night, Russia launched another air and missile attack on Ukraine. Information on the consequences of this terrorist attack is currently being clarified.

Over the past 24 hours, the enemy carried out 11 missile and 49 air strikes and fired from multiple-launch rocket systems 48 times on the positions of our troops and settlements. As a result of the Russian terrorist attacks, civilians were injured, and residential buildings, commercial and administrative buildings, as well as private vehicles, were damaged.

The likelihood of missile and air strikes throughout Ukraine remains high.

The enemy is concentrating its main efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka fronts, where 28 combat engagements took place over the past day."

Details: The situation on the Volyn and Polissia fronts remained unchanged.

On the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna fronts, Russian forces launched an airstrike near Shpyl (Sumy Oblast) over the course of the past 24 hours. They also deployed mortars and artillery to fire on more than 20 civilian settlements, including Seredyna-Buda, Kozache, Stepne, Popivka and Hrabovske (Sumy Oblast); and Basove, Vysoka Yaruha, Ternova and Vovchansk (Kharkiv Oblast).

Ukrainian forces are holding the line on the Kupiansk front. Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensive operations to the south of Masiutivka (Kharkiv Oblast). They carried out an airstrike on Kyslivka. The settlements of Kamianka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Kupiansk and Kyslivka (Kharkiv Oblast) came under Russian mortar and artillery fire.

On the Lyman front, Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensive operations to the east of Vesele (Donetsk Oblast). They also carried out airstrikes in and around Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast) and Siversk (Donetsk Oblast). The Russians shelled Nevske and Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast) and Torske, Spirne and Rozdolivka (Donetsk Oblast).

On the Bakhmut front, the Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled all Russian attacks near Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka and Ivanivske. The Russians made an attempt to regain lost positions to the north-west of Kurdiumivka, but to no avail. They launched airstrikes on the areas in and around Pivnichne and New-York. Over 10 settlements, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora and Druzhba (Donetsk Oblast), came under Russian artillery fire.

On the Avdiivka front, the Russians carried out an airstrike near Avdiivka (Donetsk Oblast). At the same time, Russian forces shelled more than 10 civilian settlements, including Avdiivka, Nevelske and Pervomaiske (Donetsk Oblast).

On the Marinka front, Ukrainian forces continued to hold back the offensive of Russian troops in the area of Marinka. The Russians shelled more than 10 civilian settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Marinka and Heorhiivka (Donetsk Oblast).

On the Shakhtarsk front, Russian forces unsuccessfully tried to regain lost positions in the vicinity of Staromaiorske (Donetsk Oblast). They carried out airstrikes near Novomykhailivka, Vremivka, Blahodatne and Makarivka (Donetsk Oblast). The Russians shelled Paraskoviivka, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Zolota Nyva, Velyka Novosilka and Blahodatne.

Russian forces on the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson fronts are focusing their efforts on preventing Ukrainian forces from advancing. They carried out airstrikes in and around Novodarivka, Mala Tokmachka and Stepove (Zaporizhzhia Oblast). The Russians shelled over 15 civilian settlements, including Malynivka, Huliaipole and Charivne (Zaporizhzhia Oblast); Kherson, Dudchany, Kozatske, Lvove, Ivanivka, Antonivka, Berehove, Kizomys and Rozlyv (Kherson Oblast). 

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defence Forces continued to conduct offensive operations on the Melitopol and Berdiansk fronts, where they are consolidating the positions they had previously captured and engaging in counter-battery fire.

Over the course of the day, Ukrainian aircraft carried out 15 airstrikes on areas where Russian military personnel, weapons and equipment were concentrated. One of these strikes targeted an anti-aircraft missile system of the Russians. 

Units of Ukraine’s Rocket Forces and Artillery struck a cluster of Russian military personnel, 20 field artillery units, two air defence systems and two electronic warfare stations.
