Ukraine receives over US$23 billion in financial aid to reduce budget deficit – Ukraine's PM

Since the beginning of the year, international partners have allocated over US$23 billion in financial aid to reduce the budget deficit in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister noted that in the first six months of 2023, the state budget received UAH1.302 trillion [about US$35.5 million – ed.] in taxes, fees and other payments. Budget expenses for the same time amounted to UAH1.784 trillion [about US$48.7 million – ed.].

Since the beginning of the year, international partners have allocated more than US$23 billion to Ukraine to cover the budget deficit.

According to Shmyhal, the first priority for spending remains security and defence of the country. It takes up about half of all budget funds. Social programs come second. UAH231 billion was allocated to those in the past six months. Apart from that, the main spending targets include medicine, education, regional support and recovery.

In addition, the government has already allocated more than UAH1.7 billion for the restoration of medical institutions in nine oblasts of Ukraine.

"To restore the economy, we continue the program of irrevocable grants. Within the 10th wave of applications under the Vlasna Sprava [Own Business – ed.] programme, UAH72 million was allocated for 306 businesses. In general, since the beginning of 2023, 2,800 business owners, who will be given grants for UAH665 million, have become the beneficiaries of the programme," Shmyhal added.

The General Fund of the state budget of Ukraine received the second tranche of US$890 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

On Thursday, 30 June, the state budget of Ukraine received grant funds in the amount of US$1.215 billion: 1.2 billion from the United States and 15 million from Finland.
