Details: According to Trudeau, Canada intends to respond to Ukraine's direct request by providing additional drones with stones.
Canada will also provide training and capacity building for the Ukrainian military as part of Operation UNIFIER in Canada. This summer, the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean will host officer cadets from Ukraine for an intensive three-week training programme developed in partnership with NATO under the Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP).
Trudeau also announced an additional C$48.8 million (US$37 million) to the Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) for Ukraine.
This contribution will support NATO's non-lethal, practical assistance to Ukraine through the provision of materiel, including fuel, bridge equipment, rations and first aid supplies.
Background: Canada is among 11 partner countries that have signed a memorandum defining the conditions for training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
On the eve of the NATO summit in Vilnius, Trudeau promised that Canada would strengthen its military forces in Latvia more than twice.
