Details: The new package of US military assistance is provided under the Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which entails long-term contracts with industry or partner countries, so the equipment will not be provided to Ukraine in the near future.
The package includes additional ammunition for Patriot air defence systems, HAWK air defence systems and missiles, 105-mm and 203-mm artillery shells, Puma unmanned aerial systems, ammunition for laser-guided missile systems, as well as support for training, maintenance and the provision of equipment.
"The United States will continue to work with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield needs and long-term security assistance needs," the Pentagon said.
The total amount of US military assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, according to official data from the US Department of Defense, is more than US$39.7 billion.
US President Joe Biden believes that American funding to support Ukraine will continue despite possible discussions in Congress.
