Mondelez owns the brands Freia, Toblerone and Daim, among others. It has three factories in Russia, and Ukraine accuses the company of contributing to the aggressor's army by paying taxes to the Russian budget.
Quote: "We are removing the [Mondelez] products from our assortment and replacing them," SAS representative Tonje Sund told the newspaper on Thursday afternoon.
Mondelez commented on the airline's move, calling it "shameful".
Quote: "We consider it a shame that SAS made such a decision, but of course our customers decide for themselves what products they want to sell," the Mondelez press service said in an email to the newspaper.
The company noted that it understands the "emotional nature of the issue" and "respects different opinions on this issue."
Quote: "However, we would like to clarify that Freia is a Norwegian brand, the production of which is located in Norway. Production does not take place in Russia, and we do not sell products made in Russia in Scandinavia," Mondelez said.
Previously, Hungary blocked the approval of the 11th package of EU sanctions due to Ukraine adding OTP Bank to the list of "war financiers".
Germany and Hungary argued over the role of this bank in the Russian war in Ukraine.
