EU extends economic sanctions against Russia for half year over war

The EU has extended the economic sanctions imposed in connection with the aggressive war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine for the next six months.

Details: Jozwiak said that the EU Council extended sanctions against Russia for the next six months.

Quote: "Hungary requested an impact assessment but agreed to green light taking into account the assessment by the Commission on sanctions that will follow soon," Rikard Jozwiak added.

Details: It should be noted that the requirements to assess the impact of the imposed sanctions were voiced by Budapest in December 2022.

The previous time, economic sanctions against Russia were extended until 31 July in January 2023. 

This package includes the first sanctions against Russia, introduced in 2014, and all subsequent ones, implemented after the start of the full-scale war.

Background: On 23 May, the Council of the European Union approved the 11th package of economic and personal sanctions against Russia.
