Zelenskyy believes it is "historic time" for start of Ukraine's EU membership negotiations
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for the start of the negotiations concerning Ukraine’s accession to the EU, adding that Ukraine is ready for it.

Quote: "This is a historic time for the start of the negotiations of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. The Europe of values, the free and strong Europe, the Europe of peace, is unimaginable without Ukraine," said Zelenskyy.
Details: He noted that Ukraine’s progress in fulfilling the recommendations of the EU "should be noted".
Quote: "Ukraine aims to prepare for the start of the negotiations concerning its EU membership as soon as possible, and that is exactly what we are doing," Zelenskyy added.
Background:
- The European Commission believes that Ukraine has fully implemented two out of seven conditions necessary to open accession negotiations, and progress has been made on the remaining conditions.
- The Ukrainian government forecasts that Ukraine will have implemented the rest of the recommendations by October.
- Matti Maasikas, the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, advises resuming e-declaration for officials following an interim assessment of the seven recommendations by the European Commission.
- Zelenskyy promised that Ukraine, in its turn, would fulfil all criteria of the European Commission necessary for the start of the negotiations about EU membership by the end of this year.
