Yulia stated that a Russian dancer had hit the Ukrainian woman and screamed at her before pouring water over her.
The reason for the Russian’s outburst was likely to have been a slogan on the Ukrainian’s T-shirt which the Russian considered offensive. The Russian called the Ukrainian a "Nazi" and accused her of calling for Russians to be killed.
Yulia added that the organisers of the event did not even attempt to investigate and had simply asked both women to leave the festival.
"I don’t think it’s right to treat a person who was attacked for no reason like this. This war has ruined our lives. It has taken away many good people – my friends and their families. And I’m not going to let some Russian bitch offend Ukrainians. You can go on saying that dance and art are beyond politics, but the effect of Russian propaganda should not be underestimated," Yulia states.
The organisers of the festival in Germany have responded to the incident, saying that they do not know who was to blame for the conflict and think it is up to the police to investigate.
At the same time, the organisers stated that they condemn Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine but will only judge people based on their actions, not their nationality.
