"The plane was passing over a thunderstorm, and Slovak flight controls directed it to this route. It all went according to safety procedures," the airline told TVN24.

The Polish Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the incident, noting that the pilots were in contact with Slovak air traffic dispatchers and that there was a storm front on the plane's route.

The incident will be investigated in detail by the Civil Aviation Service and the State Commission for Investigation of Flight Incidents.

Background: Civilian planes took to the Ukrainian skies several times during the full-scale war. In early April, SkyUp evacuated its Boeing 737-800 from Boryspil airport and is now operating flights in Europe.

In September, WizzAir moved its commercial aircraft from Lviv to Poland, as these planes had been stranded there at the start of the full-scale war. In December, two of Türkiye’s Airbus A400M military transport aircraft finally came back home.
