Macron announces deployment of SAMP/T system in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday that the French-Italian SAMP/T anti-missile defence system is now being successfully deployed in Ukraine.
As European Pravda reports, referencing Rai News, Macron made the announcement during a speech at the Paris Air Show.
"I am glad to be able to announce, together with my Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, that the Franco-Italian SAMP/T air defence system is now being deployed and functioning in Ukraine, where it is protecting key facilities and people's lives," the French head of state said.
This was the first official confirmation of the arrival of SAMP/T in Ukraine following numerous media reports.
The delivery of the SAMP/T system to Ukraine took place within the framework of Italy’s sixth package of military aid, announced in February this year, by agreement with France.
SAMP/T-MAMBA is Europe's first long-range anti-missile system. It can destroy enemy aircraft at a range of 3 to 100 km and ballistic missiles at a range of 3 to 25 km. The defeat height is up to 25 km.
SAMP/T was developed by the European consortium Eurosam (MBDA Italy, MBDA France, Thales). The system is in service in Italy, France and Singapore.
