Ukraine's future lies with NATO, but we must wait until war is over – Stoltenberg
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has expressed his belief that Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance in the future.
Source: As European Pravda reports, he said this in an interview with German newspaper Welt.
Details: At the same time, according to Stoltenberg, Ukraine's priority now "is the establishment of itself as a sovereign and independent state."
Quote: "Otherwise, there can be no question of membership... We must make sure that when this war ends, there will be reliable agreements on the security of Ukraine so that Russia cannot rearm and attack again so that the cycle of Russian aggression is broken," the NATO Secretary General added.
He said that at the summit in Vilnius, NATO would adopt an aid package that is to bring Ukraine closer to the Alliance's standards within a few years.
Political ties between NATO and Ukraine will be intensified, Stoltenberg noted.
As is known, at the July NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukraine also seeks to achieve clear wording regarding the prospect of membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, instead criticising the decision of the 2008 Bucharest summit, which is "detached from reality as much as possible."
At the same time, US President Joe Biden said the day before that he opposed simplifying the requirements for Ukraine on its way to NATO membership.
