US President Joe Biden has said he opposes simplifying requirements for Ukraine on its path to NATO membership.

Source: Biden told this to reporters on Sunday, 17 June, before flying to Philadelphia, writes CNN, as reported by European Pravda

Details: When Biden was asked whether he would ease barriers for Ukraine’s NATO membership, he replied:  "No. Because they gotta meet the same standards. So I’m not gonna make it easier."

At the same time, the American president acknowledged that the Ukrainian army now meets the standards of NATO countries, but he expressed doubt about whether the Ukrainian security system as a whole meets the standards and whether it is corrupt.

Earlier, Axios reported that Biden supported NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's proposal that Ukraine does not need to implement the Membership Action Plan (MAP) to join the Alliance.

Politico also noted that more and more member states of the North Atlantic Alliance support the simplified accession of Ukraine, which provides for the rejection of the MAP, and this decision can be approved at the NATO summit in Vilnius.

At the July NATO Summit in Vilnius, Ukraine seeks to hear solid statements on the prospect of gaining membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, while criticising the decision of the 2008 Bucharest Summit, which is "grossly detached from reality."
