On Wednesday, the United States will announce new sanctions against Russia, which relate, in particular, to the technologies used in Iranian-made kamikaze drones.

"Tomorrow we will announce new measures that will complement our measures to export control technologies found in Iranian drones used to strike Ukrainian civilians and civilian infrastructure," Blinken said.

He added that the new US sanctions will also be aimed at countering Russian disinformation and "protection of human rights defenders on the internet."

Since summer 2022, Russia has been using Iranian-made Shahed drones in Ukraine, which it calls Geran (Russian for 'geranium'), posing them as its own development. Since then, the United States and other Western countries have consistently imposed sanctions on Iranian companies and people involved in the production of drones and sending them to Russia.

Officially, Tehran recognised that it supplied Russia with a small batch of kamikaze drones before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. And the media repeatedly described how exactly Moscow gets weapons from Iran.

Among other things, the Caspian Sea is probably one of the main supply routes from Iran to Russia, Iranian-made attack drones and other kinds of support that Tehran provides to the Kremlin in connection with the war against Ukraine and Western sanctions.
